Today on our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan we’re going to be test fitting the RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Roof Top Bike Rack, part number RKY1202. This is a pretty unique bike rack for the roof in that instead of having to remove your front wheel for say for a fork mount, you can actually leave it on and it grips your entire bike on the roof, and it still maintains no frame contact at all. Instead it uses this wheel hook up at the front and two wheel straps on each tire. These wheel straps are adjustable along the bike rack itself, and this is too accommodate different sized bikes. With the bike installed I’d like to show you that you have no clearance issues with the roof rack in this configuration between the hatch and the bike rack itself. Let’s go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. We’ll start by loosening up the wheel straps, pushing up on the top of the tabs which will release them.

Then finally we can remove the brass knuckle portion. You notice that with the wheel hook at least you’ll see those points where you can put your hand through, hence the name brass knuckles. Before we release this you want to make sure you’re holding onto the bike rack because you don’t want it falling into the vehicle or onto yourself when you release it. You go to this blue trigger at the bottom, push in and up and away. Grab your bike very carefully and set it aside. How this actually attaches to your roof rack, we have this bracket here at the back and these two Allen head screws that will tighten it up to that rear cross bar.

We have it on a factory roof rack right now, but this also works with square, round, elliptical, and aero bars. At the front here we have these rubber coated steel straps that wrap around the front side of it, and if we open up our hatch at the top here you can see the screw that actually tightens it down here at the top. Once everything’s set you can put this back in place. You notice that the top of this, there’s a cut out here for a lock. That means you can actually add a lock core to it, and when you install the bike rack on here you can lock it down and secure it completely to your roof rack as well so there’s no theft or tampering.
