Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ford van, we’re going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite class three custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 75703.Here’s what our hitch looks like when it’s fully installed. It’s going to sit right below the bumper and the cross tube is going to visible just right below that bumper there. Now this is a class three hitch, which means it’s going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening and as you can see, it has a reinforced collar, not only giving it strength but also a nice finished look. Now, our hitch is going to use a standard five-eighths pin and clip. That’s going to be the hole closest to our van. Now they’re not included but you can pick some up on our website using part number PC3. The second hole here is going to be for the J pin stabilization device and that’s going to be great if any of our accessories don’t have a built in anti-rattle.
Our safety chain loops are going to be a welded plate style to the bottom of the receiver tube and as you can see, we’re not going to have too much trouble getting most sized hooks on or off. Now, as far as weight capacity goes, our hitch is going to feature a 600 pound tongue weight along with a 6,00- pound gross trailer weight rating. Now, it is designed and used with weight distribution systems and that’s going to jump up our tongue weight to 1,000 pounds and our gross trailer weight rating up to 10,000 pounds. Now, I do want to mention you always want to double check your van to make sure it can handle that amount of weight.I’d like to give you a few measurements that’s going to help you out when deciding for accessories for your new hitch such as a ball mount, bike rack or even a cargo carrier. As far as ground clearance is concerned, from the ground top inside edge of the receiver tube, it’s going to be 17 1/2 inches. Now, the center of the hitch pin hole does stick out past the bumper and our whole receiver tube is going to stick out just about three inches past our bumper. Now, the installation is going to be very straight forward and the only tools you’re really going to need is a ratchet, a three quarter inch wrench and socket and a torque wrench to the torque everything down.
To begin our installation, I want to point out where our attachment points are going to be on our frame. If we come just behind our bumper, right here at the frame. This hole at the very back of the frame is going to be the first attachment point and then if we move forward to the slotted hole, that’s going to be our second attachment point and then we can go down to the third attachment point which is going to be the other slotted hole in the back. These are going to be the same attachment points on both sides. We’re going to start off by putting some of our hardware in place. We’re going to take our half inch bolts and our half inch flat washer and we’re going to drop them down in to the rearward most attachment point.
Now, we’re going to do that on both sides of our frame. For our second attachment point, just forward of that, we’re going to take another one of our half inch bolts followed by our square spacer block with the round hole and we’re going to drop it through the spacer block and drop it down through the frame. We’re going to do that on both sides. The third attachment point, just in front of the other one, we’re going to take our half inch carriage bolts and the spacer block that has the square frame in it and we’re going to drop our carriage bolt down and drop it through the frame. We’ll do that for both sides as well. Now, it’s a good idea to grab an extra set of hands and go ahead and put our hitch into place. Now, before we attach our hitch, we’re going to grab the large washer and that’s actually going to go in between the frame and the hitch itself on the rearward most attachment point.
Then it’s going to be followed by a conical tooth washer. You just want to make sure that the teeth are facing out towards the hitch. And finally, we’re going to secure it with a half inch nut. Now, I have one bolt holding it in place on each side. We’re going to need to reach up into the frame and just slightly pull out the middle hardware because we’re going to take another one of our spacer blocks with the round hole and we’re going to line it up and that’s going to go in between our hitch and the frame. Then we can drop down our hardware and we’re going to secure it aga
