Latest Dodge RAM – 2019 Ram 1500 Review | First Drive | Edmunds – 20001 Washington DC 2018.

Edmunds travels to San Antonio, Texas, to catch up with the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 pickup. Watch as we jump behind the wheel of this fully re-engineered full-size truck and get familiar with its all-new interior and enlarged crew cab. You’ll also see what we think about how it rides and drives, and we even spend some time pulling a two-axle trailer.

Q: What is different about the 2019 Ram 1500?
A: The 2019 Ram 1500 has been fully redesigned, especially the crew cab, which rests on a longer frame that allows for a bigger cab with 4.9 inches more rear legroom, which makes it the new class leader in this area.

Q: What engines will power the 2019 Ram 1500?
A: The Tradesman, Big Horn and Rebel variants of the 2019 Ram 1500 will come with the familiar Pentastar V6, updated this year with the eTorque advanced stop-start system. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 will be an $1,195 option. But the V8 will come standard on the Laramie, Longhorn and Limited trims levels. An eTorque-equipped Hemi V8 costs $800 more than the standard V8.

Q: What 2019 Ram 1500 configurations will be available?
A: The Tradesman, Big Horn and Rebel will be available as a Quad Cab with a 6-foot-4 bed, a crew cab with a 5-foot-7 bed, or a crew cab with a 6-foot-4 bed. The Laramie, Longhorn and Limited are strictly crew cab only, but both bed choices will be available. Four-wheel drive is optional on every combination.

Q: What is the fuel economy rating of the 2019 Ram 1500?
A: The familiar 5.7-liter Hemi V8 will be rated as it was last year: 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Ratings have not yet been released for the eTorque V6 or the eTorque Hemi V8, but Ram engineers hint that it will improve by “double-digit” percentage points, which probably means 2 mpg, possibly more.

Q: How much trailer weight can the 2019 Ram 1500 tow?
A: In rough terms, a given configuration of the V8-powered 2019 Ram 1500 can tow about 1,200 pounds more than last year. This year’s maximum tow rating is 12,750 pounds if you buy a two-wheel-drive Quad Cab Tradesman powered by the Hemi V8 and equip it with the optional 2.92 axle ratio. The more popular crew cab is heavier, so its maximum tow rating with the V8 and the 2.92 axle ratio ranges between about 11,000 and 11,500 pounds, depending on trim level and equipment.
