Speaker 1: Today on this 2018 Dodge Durango we’ll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins seven and four-pole trailer connector socket with mounting bracket, part number HM40975. Here’s what our wiring looks like installed. This wiring harness will allow you to safely and legally tow a trailer, because on the right side of it we have our four-pole flat connector, and this gives us the basic lighting functions that are required by law and will refer us to safely and legally tow a trailer. We’ll have our turn signals, our brake lights, our taillights, and our running lights, as well as the necessary ground connection that we need between our Durango and our trailer for everything to work properly. On one side of our connector, we have a seven-way connector here, and this gives you all the lighting functions that the four-pole had, plus reverse light output function, an electric brake controller output function, and also a 12-volt charge line kit. If you want to tow a trailer with electric brakes, though, you will require an additional brake controller on your vehicle, and we have multiple different options for that. Now what’s nice about this is not only do we have our four-pole flat, but we have the seven-way RV connector here, so this gives us the ability to tow multiple different types of trailers without having to get adapters. We have all the wiring functions that we need built into this connector.
Now what many of our customers like about this connector is that it gives the vehicle a very factory-like appearance. This is actually true because this part is factory equipped on many trucks out there. Several Dodge trucks and Chevrolet trucks, they actually use this part from the factory to give you your seven-way and your four-pole flat connector. What I really like about this connector is that the doors are spring loaded and they have a rubber gasket on the inside to help better seal the connector when it’s not in use to help protect it from the elements. And now that we’ve gone over some features, we’ll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we need to find a place to mount our mounting bracket.
In our particular place, our hitch has a mounting bracket that is welded onto our hitch and we can easily bolt our bracket to that. We’ll just use a couple bolts, some flat washers on the bottom. We’ll top it off with a nylon lock nut. Now we’ll tighten down our hardware, and that gives us a very solid attachment point four our electrical connection. Now we need to locate our vehicle’s factory tow package connector. It’ll be in this general area right here, right above where we installed our bracket behind our fascia.
Here’s our connector. We’ll now pull this away from our vehicle’s bumper using a trim panel tool to loosen the clip, and we loosened a couple more of those clips above our spare tire so we have enough slack to make our connection. Now we need to remove the protective dust cover from our plug. To do that, we’ll press on this black tab here and pull back on the plug to remove it. Now we’ll put some dielectric grease inside of our plug just to help better protect it from the elements.
We have dielectric grease available on our website if you’d like to purchase some. We’ll now take our seven-way connector, place it through our bracket. Not all the way, just enough so we can make our connection. Plug that in until it locks in place, just like that. We have fully seed our seven-way connector into our bracket now. We’ll just push it in place until it clicks. Now that we have our wiring installed, we will have to make a trip to our local dealership to have the computer flash in order for the wiring to function properly. The factory tow package is disabled from your vehicle from the factory. For a very minimal fee, the dealership will be able to enable it for you.And that completes our look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins seven and four-pole trailer connector socket with mounting bracket, part number HM40975 on this 2018 Dodge Durango.
As we discovered when we added one to our lasting fleet, the Dodge Durango GT is a spacious, functional SUV that’s likewise sportier than you might expect. That claimed, with a 295-hp V-6 under the hood, it’s nowhere near as effective as the Durango SRT 392. But with the new Rallye Look Package, you can at the very least give the Durango GT an SRT-inspired look.
Reported today, the Rallye Look Package provides a more hostile front end, a sportier hood, as well as LED foglamps. It might not be required, but Dodge says the hood scoop as well as vents are in fact practical. If you tow a great deal, it most likely cannot harm.
” Much of our clients enjoy the efficiency look of the Durango R/T as well as Durango SRT, but are happy with the award-winning Pentastar V-6 engine’s 295 horsepower as well as the outstanding gas performance it supplies,” claimed Steve Beahm, FCA’s North American head of auto, in a launch. “This new Durango GT Rallye Look Package provides those three-row SUV purchasers the best of both worlds.”
The Rallye bundle is available to get now for $1,495 as well as be available in seven various colors. Considering the Durango GT starts at $38,990 including destination, that brings the base price of a Rallye-equipped Durango to $40,485.
