The brand-new Magnum is a great looking car that will get your next-door neighbors talking as you rumble around the block. The special styling of the Magnum will likewise attract gawkers through 18-22 years of age guys pointing for their pals to “inspect that out”. And a few individuals will approach you as you are filling up the gas tank to ask, “Does it actually have a Hemi?”, with only a vague idea that it somehow makes the automobile better.
The Magnum is used with several engine sizes (either a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder) with your option of horsepower output of 190, 250, 340 and 425. The cost of the car also corresponds with the engine size starting at $30,345 to the expensive STR-8 model for $37,320. A huge part of the mystique around this cars and truck is the Hemi engine. The Hemi is short for hemispherical combustion chamber, which develops more effective fuel burning and permits larger valves for better airflow. Essentially, it produces more power than an engine with its displacement would generally produce. (There are also drawbacks to the Hemi, which is why it isn’t really the only engine that Chrysler produces).
The interior of the vehicle looks much more expensive than you ‘d anticipate for the cost of the Magnum. Since Mercedes purchased Chrysler, the Dodge lorries I’ve tested have had a sharp improvement in interior quality. While on the road, the vehicle is really solid and the seats are comfortable even on long highway runs.
As much as I like the looks, after driving it a while I really have to question the design principle that the Magnum deals. It is a station wagon developed to carry a lot of individuals and a great deal of stuff. But mating this with an effective engine with the taught racing-like suspension is uneasy for both. It is like having a Corvette tow a little trailer, and you remain in the trailer and the Corvette motorist is 15 years-old, pushing the automobile to its limitations. (Only a real Corvette has a far more comfortable suspension than the Magnum). Even driving on smooth roads, the steering is really darty and tough to manage. And with a large cars and truck, all that weaving and roadway feedback is exaggerated for the passengers and whatever you’ve stored in the back.
I like having a navigation system, however finding out ways to use it with the guiding wheel controls made me regularly refer to the user’s manual. In spite of the high horse power and low-end torque I had fun with when starting from a full stop, the RT design I drove balanced 20 MPG on the higway.
What I presume to be the target market for this cars and truck, those 18-22 year-old men that I mentioned, will most likely like this cars and truck. And as much as I like owning cars, the darty steering and sharp suspension make it too unpleasant with no amazing payoff. The 0-60 sprint is fun for a little while, but I ‘d pass on buying a Magnum as a day-to-day owning vehicle.
