crash, 11 cm of webbing spooled off the retractor, including about 3 cm from the force-limiting
mechanism. The airbag contacted the dummy’s chest and face during deployment. After the
dummy loaded the airbag, it rebounded rearward and upward until the top of the head contacted
the left roof rail and grab handle. The rear of the dummy’s head then contacted the head restraint
as the dummy returned to its upright position.
The HIC-15 was 749 when the dummy’s head loaded the airbag. The peak resultant head
acceleration from the roof rail and grab handle contact was 16 g. The maximum left and right
foot resultant accelerations were 175 g and 173 g, respectively. The maximum right upper tibia
A-P moment was 227 Nm, significantly contributing to the right upper tibia index of 1.15. The
maximum right tibia axial force was –5.5 kN. The maximum right tibia-femur displacement was
–12 mm.
