Today on our 2016 Dodge Journey, we’ll be installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C56154. All right, here’s what our wiring looks like now that it’s been installed. As you can see, we have an adequate length of wire here to hook up to our trailer. We have this nice dust cover here to protect the connector from the elements when it’s not in use. Now, one cool thing about this dust cover is, you can use it to help secure your wiring from dangling below the vehicle when it’s not in use. Just stick the cover through your safety chain loop on your hitch and hook it back up.

That’ll keep it from dangling on the ground and it’ll be right there for when you need to hook up to your trailer. This Curt Wiring Harness will give us three amps of power output for our stop and turn signals on our trailer and six amps for all of our taillights and running lights that are on our trailer. If we have several taillights or marker lights on our trailer, this will provide us with adequate power in order to run all of those. All right, here’s what our wiring kit consists of. Most importantly, we have our wiring harness itself. This will us our 4-pole flat right here to connect to our trailer to have all the lighting functions that are required by law in order to safely tow our trailer. Here we have our T-connectors.

This will control our brake lights on our trailer right here. This connector here will handle our left turn signal. This will handle our right turn signal here. This one that does our brake lights will also do our taillights too. Now, this module here will isolate our vehicle’s lighting system from the trailer, so it will be run on a separate circuit and not cause any drain on our vehicle’s lighting system, so it will function properly. It does this because it’s connected directly to our battery on our vehicle off this wire here and this extension wire inaudible 02:06 fuse holder.

This fuse holder comes with a fuse and then has all the necessary connections to make our connection to the battery. Finally, you have several zip ties here to secure our wiring. Some double-sided tape to secure our module and then a dust cover here to go over our 4-pole flat. We’ll go ahead and get that installed right now. Slide it over our 4-pole flat.

Fold it back over and this will protect our wiring when it’s not in use. Finally, our module is grounded to our vehicle off this white wire and included self-tapping screw. Now, this wiring harness is for Dodge Journeys that have LED taillights. If you’re questioning if your vehicle has LED taillights, one easy way to find out is just to look at your taillight. If your taillight looks like this one and has multiple small bulbs around the outside edge on both of the assemblies, those are LED taillights. The incandescent version of the Dodge Journey will just have a single glass bulb in the middle. We’ll begin our installation by opening our rear hatch. With our hatch open, we’ll start on our driver side of the vehicle. We’ll remove our outer taillight assembly. It’s held in place by two plastic panel fasteners here. We’ll use a trim panel tool or a flat-head screwdriver. We’ll start working out the center portion of it. Once you get the center portion out, we’ll get the outer portion out. Grab our taillight assembly and pull it out towards us. Find two connectors here, push on the tab, disconnect it. This one here is slightly different. You lift up on it and pull back. Set our taillight assembly aside and we’ll repeat the same process on the passenger side. Okay, starting at our driver side now that both of our light assemblies are out, we’ll take our green connector here for our passenger side turn signal and our 4-pole flat harness for our trailer lights and we’ll drop them down behind the bumper. Okay, you can see where they come out behind our bumper cover here. We’ll take our connector here for our driver side turn signal. You want the yellow on it. We’ll take the male connector right here and we’ll plug it into the wiring. We’ll push it in until it latches. Once we can’t push anymore, we’ll pull back on it and make sure it’s secure. Now, we’ll take our red and brown wire for our brake light signal and our taillight signal. We’ll take the male one here and plug it into the female end of the car until it clicks into place.
